Linking the Strands of Gifted Education
to Provide Equity for All

Dr. Jaime Castellano

Jaime A. Castellano is one of the nation’s leading authorities on the identification, assessment, recruitment, and retention of low-income, culturally and linguistically different gifted students. Dr. Castellano has particular expertise and success in working with school districts across the nation to increase the number of Hispanic/Latino students, Native American students, as well as English language learners in gifted education programs. With more than 25 years in the field, he has served as a teacher of the gifted, assistant principal and principal supervising gifted education programs, district-level gifted education coordinator and director, and state department of education specialist in the field.

Castellano is an award-winning principal and author, as well as a noted researcher and scholar in gifted education. He has written and edited four books on understanding our most able students from diverse backgrounds, written and/or edited multiple chapters, articles, and monographs in the field. His 2011 publication: Special Populations in Gifted Education: Understanding Our Most Able Students from Diverse Backgroundswas awarded the Legacy Award for Outstanding Scholarly Publication in the field of Gifted Education. He also serves as a reviewer for the Journal of Advanced Academics (JAA), Journal for the Education of the Gifted (JEG), Gifted Child Today (GCT), and Roeper Review.

 


Dr. Tamra Stambaugh

Tamra Stambaugh, Ph.D.is an assistant research professor and executive director of Programs for Talented Youth at Vanderbilt University. Stambaugh’s research focus is on high achieving low-income students and curriculum and instructional interventions that support gifted learners. She is the co-author/co-editor of several books, book chapters, articles, and curriculum units including but not limited toServing Gifted Students in Rural Settings (with Susannah Wood);Comprehensive Curriculum for Gifted Learners,Overlooked Gems: A National Perspective on Low-Income Promising Students, and theJacob’s Ladder Reading Comprehension Program Series(with Joyce VanTassel-Baska)and most recently, four accelerated, concept-based ELA curriculum units designed for gifted middle schoolers (with Emily Mofield).

Stambaugh is a frequent presenter/consultant at conferences and school districts across the nation and abroad. She has served on numerous NAGC and state committees in support of gifted education and is a reviewer for key journals in the field. Prior to her appointment at Vanderbilt, she was director of grants and special projects at the Center for Gifted Education, William and Mary where she received her PhD.


    



Dr. Mike Postma

Dr. Michael Postma is a consultant, speaker, and author dedicated to the holistic development of both gifted and twice-exceptional children through his company Agility Educational Solutions. Over the last two decades, Dr. Postma has worked in the field of gifted/talented education as both a teacher and administrator in the public school system and was the architect of the Minnetonka Navigator Program (MN), a magnet school for highly and profoundly gifted students. He was also the Executive Director at Metrolina Regional Scholars Academy, a charter school for gifted children in Charlotte, NC.

Dr. Postma has multiple degrees. He obtained a B.A. in History from McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, a M.A. in Gifted and Talented Education, and, a Ed. D. in Educational Leadership (Critical Pedagogy) from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, MN. He currently lives in Surf City, NC and is the father of four children, three of whom are twice-exceptional.
