Virginia Association for the Gifted
2016 – 2017 Leader of the Year Award
The Virginia Association for the Gifted (VAG) will present an annual “Leader of the Year” award to an individual at any level (parent, teacher, coordinator, administrator, legislator, other) whose exemplary leadership and outstanding contribution to gifted education has affected Virginia’s children, teachers, schools, programs, services, and/or policies. The award will be presented at the annual conference or seminar.
VAG defines exemplary leadership and an outstanding contribution to mean:
Bringing about a change that results in improvement in gifted services in one area of a program, district, or region or within a total program, district, or region;
Bringing about policy change, effecting significant changes in curriculum within a program, district, or region;
Creating a support organization to improve the services and/or conditions for teachers and students in gifted programs and whose actions increase opportunities for a wide-range of diverse gifted learners;
Impacts gifted education in the state of Virginia through outstanding leadership and/or creative innovation at either the local or state levels;
The nominator of this exemplary leader must be a VAG member in good standing.
These contributions are interpreted as those that far exceed the regular expectations of a position, duty, or office. Financial assistance would not necessarily constitute outstanding contribution, nor would service over a number of years.
Application must be submitted on or before March 31, 2017
* The VAG Awards Committee reserves the right to withdraw an award if nominations submitted do not meet the stated criteria or if a nominee’s achievements, as described, do not meet the intent of the award.
* Incomplete or late applications will not be scored
